The AgraLiving Institute is preparing to host a series of fall workshops “designed to empower the community to grow their own food”.
A spokesperson said: “The AgraLiving Institute is very excited to announce its Fall Workshop Series, which covers a range of topics and is dynamically designed to empower the community to grow their own food.
“Between September and December, they offer five workshops which are all a balanced mix of educational presentations and hands-on activities. The presentations will take place in the Horticultural Hall and the gardening demonstrations will take place in the Education and Research Garden, all located in the Botanical Gardens.
“The AgraLiving Institute and the workshops they offer are inspired by GROW BIOINTENSIVE sustainable agriculture, a method that, when used correctly, allows you to grow all of your own food in the smallest space possible while strengthening soil fertility. Making sure of the latter is what sets this method apart, as raising healthy soil means higher yields and less use of fertilizers and insecticides year after year.
“The first upcoming workshop, Garden Planning for Success, will take place on Saturday September 18th. This is a three hour experience aimed at helping you gain confidence in your gardening skills so you can get the most out of your garden.
“The workshop will cover topics such as what to plant when, how many crops to grow, companion planting, how to use their garden plan worksheet, creating a map for your garden and the basics of growing. healthy seedlings.
“There will be a few opportunities to participate in their Sustainable Agriculture 101 workshops; September 25, October 24 and November 13. This acclaimed workshop is packed with action and fundamental knowledge about the GROW BIOINTENSIVE method of sustainable agriculture and how it is applied here in Bermuda.
“The AgraLiving team will teach soil construction, deep soil preparation, compost pile construction and maintenance, successful seedling cultivation, closed-loop fertility and more. You will be more than ready to grow your own abundance of food once you complete this exciting day-long event. And if all that didn’t sound appealing enough, attendees will be treated to healthy herbal refreshments as part of the workshop experience.
“December 4th is their TomatoMania! workshop, which involves cultivating a bumper crop of tomatoes in a sustainable manner. Tomatoes, while being one of the most popular vegetables to grow, are also one of the most demanding crops. Get your tomato with us and learn how to grow your own plants, prepare the garden, transplant correctly, different styles of staking and pruning.
“Overall, these workshops are a great way to learn the basics of how to sustainably grow a successful vegetable garden. They are also a fantastic chance to connect with a community that shares the same passions as you and will support you on your journey.
