Reminiscing

God bless The Seventies. It’s the era Randy and I grew up in, another common bond for us.

A few months ago, I saw a part of an infomercial as I was surfing channels. Normally, I avoid these like the plague, but this one got me. The Midnight Special, remastered and available on DVD! :jump: A dream come true! We had been lamenting the fact that you couldn’t see these musical time capsules anywhere…and there it was. We subscribed right then and there. We get two DVDs every month, in chronological order by year. Midnight Special ran from 1972 to 1981, so there’s lots of obscure stuff to tickle the old memory banks.Yes, there was LOTS of cheesiness. While we laughed a lot, we were also remembering the times of our youth with fondness. We lived that! It was fun! I don’t want to go back, but I’m glad I was there.

One of the best things about the seventies is that you could hear everything from the Ohio Players, to Kiss, to Barry Manilow, to George Benson…all on one radio station. The color of your skin or the style of your music had absolutely no bearing. It’s what the people liked! Isn’t that what it’s supposed to be about?

Nowadays, too much time is spent on analyzing race, gender, creed and lifestyle. Each one of us has strengths that another may not have. That’s a beautiful thing and something to be embraced, not fought about!

When I find myself taking a trip back in time like we did last night, I’m amazed how uncomplicated it all was. I yearn for that aspect again.

Does anyone else remember “Mystery Theater” on X-ROCK-80 broadcast out of somewhere in Mexico? Every time I’d spend the night with my friend, Ember, back in 5th grade, we’d lie in bed and listen and create mind pictures. We even acted out and recorded our own “episode” on my old bulky cassette recorder, complete with sound effects! I miss those days.

Today, we’re doing too much. Trying too hard. Technology is great but it can also be a killer. So take some time out and REMEMBER the good things in your past. You won’t regret it!
