Human Guinea Pig…heavy on the Pig

I have my annual physical on Friday.  I wasn’t supposed to have to go this year since things were fine last year, but they won’t let me have my followup mammogram and ultrasound that Radiology recommended back in May unless I do this first.  Something about insurance.  Big surprise, right?

Over the past several months, I have come to the conclusion that my 30-lb or so weight gain is partly related to my antidepressant.  I’ve taken Lexapro for several years and it has served me well until about a year ago.  After my surgery last February I began to pack on the pounds, although I didn’t perceive I was doing much different in the way of eating and exercise.  I know I couldn’t exercise for a while after my surgery, and then it was very difficult.  I am also having joint problems that contribute to this.  Still, I have read that Lex is notorious for causing weight gain (or inability to lose).  I have been irritable and depressed more than usual as well.  I think it’s time for a switch.  The ol’ brain becomes accustomed to the rewiring after a period of time, I’m convinced.  This will be my fourth time to change in about 20 years.  I have no shame regarding this, as it is similar to a diabetic needing an insulin dose adjustment.  I’m hoping to try Wellbutrin XL.  It has been said that it tends to cause weight loss.  Eureka!  We shall see what the PA tells me on Friday.  It’s either that, or I’m going to have to resort to more drastic measures, which I’d rather not do, i.e., prescription weight loss help.

I am working extra hours this week in advance of Friday’s appointment.  I think I now have a whopping 7 point something hours of paid time off.  Bah!

Told you I’m irritable!
