So. I’m about to go jogging with Randy yesterday after work and I’m flipping quickly through the mail. I see the envelope from Abilene Regional Medical Center. “Negative, I presume,” I stated as I ripped it open. Then my eyes fall on the words “further evaluation” and “ultrasound.” Double-take. I call the Women’s Center to make an appointment only to find they need an order from my doctor, so I call his office and leave a message with the receptionist. Angry, I hit the road for my jog.
This will be the second time I’ve had to have an ultrasound done on my left breast. I have a cluster of cysts there, diagnosed years ago. I’m more than a little irritated. I’m glad they want to be thorough, but I really don’t have time for another appointment. I just want to have one healthy year.
They (should) have my ultrasound and mammogram films from the other facility. I even told the technician beforehand what the deal was. Could the radiologist not tell anything from looking at those and comparing them? I know…better safe than sorry, right?
I guess I’ll have the phone beside me today while I work. Hopefully, my doctor’s nurse will call me back so I can make my appointment. I want to get this over with by the end of the week so I don’t have to think about it all weekend.
As long as they don’t decide to do a needle biopsy or aspiration, I’m fine with it.

you know I’m always going on about how backwards we are here, but my last 2 mammograms were immediately seen by a doctor who subsequently carried out the ultrasound. All in the space of less than an hour. I guess I didn’t know how good I’ve had it… (though they did close down that clinic in the meantime
).
Don’t make yourself a heavy head about this. It’ll be just fine. But it is outrageous that patients are presumed to have a lot of idle time at their hands…
Kathy,
I always have to go back. Lumpy breasts run in my family.. Yes, you’re right. Better safe than sorry.. I will still pray for you.. Today is National Day of prayer..
I hope you have a good weekend..
Bunches of hugs…
