Today’s the first day I’ve felt human since Saturday.
I have a lifelong history of asthma, eczema, and allergic rhinitis. I rarely have problems with asthma now, but I remember as a child being taken to the ER many times to be held down while I get an “adrenaline” shot. Ouch. Over the years, I “grew out” of some of my allergies and developed new ones (some of which they still aren’t sure of definite triggers). I went through the whole series of allergy shots both as a toddler and again as an adult, even giving them to myself the second time. I’ve taken meds. Finally, I figured out I was just going to have to live with it. Unfortunately, my 2 favorite seasons of spring and fall have other plans for me.
Sunday, I thought I was going to die. My histamines were on the warpath and they meant to get my attention. Swollen eyes, nose, congestion, itching, welts on my skin wherever I would scratch…you name it. Even my usual 6-sneeze fits (which crack Randy up every time) turned into more like 15 or 20. I also had muscle aches that made me want to crawl into bed and curl myself into the fetal position.
Although I had taken it before recently and the jury was still out, I knew I’d better get some Zyrtec. Randy took me to get some, as I had been out for quite a while. Today, I’m feeling back to my baseline. (Can’t say NORMAL, as there is no such term for me!)
Beam me up, Scotty. I’m allergic to life.
