Utility Futility
Yesterday was Monday. Yessir.
I awoke at my usual 4:50 a.m. to find I had no internet. Not a huge deal for most people, but it is for me. No internet, no work…no work, no money…you get the idea.
So I call Suddenlink and they tell me the obvious, “your modem is offline.” Like I couldn’t figure that one out on my own. Yes, I had already tried unplugging and plugging (which they didn’t even suggest trying). The nice gentleman on the phone set up a service call for “sometime between 12:30 and 2:30.” Swell!
I felt like I was totally cut off from the world. Very unsettling. My work schedule having been screwed, I killed time by dragging out the plastic storage container under my bed with all my Supertramp stuff in it. I pulled items out one by one. There’s some cool stuff in there. After I put everything away again, I attempted to play Jelly Car on my iPod. I found myself laughing out loud at how bad I was at it. Kept either getting my car stuck or it would fall off into iPod oblivion. I don’t see how anyone successfully completes a route.
Just before 10 a.m. as I was contorting myself trying to get my car to climb the obstacles, I noticed my modem was lit up like a Christmas tree. Huh? Well, whadda ya know? Internet! Nice of them to make me think it was my problem and not a service outage. @#$%. I phoned Suddenlink and cancelled my service call, then jumped on my work PC. I only managed to get in 5 hours and 45 minutes of my 8 hours yesterday, meaning I have to make up the rest of the time. *sigh* But wait! There’s more!
Right at 5:30 yesterday afternoon, our power went out. You have got to be kidding! Only our side of the street was affected. Our neighbor who is a maintenance manager for the City of Abilene called and reported it on his cell phone. Randy and I gave up on the day and got ready for bed. Yes, that early. It was already frickin’ dark! We’re upstairs in bed when suddenly, I hear this loud whirring sound. Lowell (our neighbor) had fired up his generator! This man is one prepared dude! LOL
Around 8:00 we realized we still had no power and Randy got up and called AEP from his cell. You know, I don’t think they even showed up until after Randy’s call. We only saw the trucks with their flashing lights from our upstairs window about 9:00, when, Voila! we finally had electricity!
I felt like I was back in the stone age. Good thing I’ve already taken a shower this morning before something happens to our water.
P.S. I have no work this morning! Sweet…that means I will have even more hours to make up! I give up……
I’m so sorry you were having problems.Sounds like a hectic day. I had one of those.. Now I just need to find my husband a job, cause he is driving me nuts..lol
Bunches of hugs….
