Welcome to Death Valley

We reached the predicted 102 yesterday for a high temp with more of the same this week and Lord knows how many more.  *sigh*  We began an effort to rescue our almost-dead St. Augustine in the front yard by watering yesterday morning and this morning.  May be too little too late, but time will tell.

On a positive note, we tried a new restaurant that opened recently that’s been getting raves.  Bonzai Japanese restaurant.  The owners took an old building that used to be Western Sizzlin’ restaurant, which was very popular for decades before they finally closed.  I did not recognize it inside.  They did a beautiful job on the decor, and the place was spotless!  Not only do they do a hibachi menu, they also have a sushi bar!  We went there for lunch on Saturday and had the California Roll and Philly Roll.  (Neither was raw…Randy wouldn’t go for it.  LOL)  Both were delicious, but our favorite was the Cali Roll with avocado and crab meat.  Someone had written a letter to the editor of our local paper saying how great the sushi was, although they had had the best on both coasts…so I knew it would probably live up to such high praise.  We weren’t disappointed.  We will definitely be trying the hibachi menu some evening soon.  They even had a “Texan Roll” sushi with jalapenos and I’ll be checking that out.

I heard from another friend from my past over the weekend.  Monique, who used to live in Holland, now makes her home in England.  At the moment, she and her husband are in Arizona on vacation.  I promised her if she’d leave the hotel phone # and room # that I’d call her back (we have free long distance).  I conked out very early last night, so I’m going to attempt it this eve.  We did have a chance to talk for just a few minutes from where she was calling before getting cut off twice.  I have to say, though, I’m a little nervous.  The last time an old friend got in touch with me, she found out she had cancer soon afterward and I never saw her again.  Can’t shake this strange feeling.

Going to think positive thoughts.  Have a blessed week.
