Back in the good ol’ days of radio, Randy and I were blessed with many opportunities to meet some of our favorite musicians. Growing up, I dreamed of moments like these. Now, I can truly say that many of my dreams have come true. I wanted to share some of those memories with you here. (I’ll add more here as I find the items.) These days are gone but never forgotten!

Randy and I, together with some other radio & record people, got to meet Sir Elton!elton-john.JPG

Not a musician, but Greatness just the same. We met Crazy Ray as we were going into Texas Stadium for a Dallas Cowboys game in ‘97. God rest his soul…

Chuck, Tommy, Dennis and J. Y. of Styx autograph a photo for Randy. I had them sign my tour shirt from ‘79, which was also my very first rock concert! Sadly, this photo is damaged.

Some goofy chick with her husband and Lyle Lovett. “Say Bubba Wayne!” (I did.)

Randy and Boomer with Stevie Ray Vaughan. He played in Abilene just a few months before he died, and only about 1,700 people showed up. No wonder we don’t get concerts anymore. Stevie was a VERY nice guy. His performance was astonishing.

We were invited to KLBJ in Austin for a private BBQ lunch and performance by Julian Lennon and his best friend, Justin. It was more than worth the 4-hour drive. Julian, you are still an inspiration…

The first time I met Roger Hodgson (formerly of Supertramp) was in 2001, while he was touring with Ringo. Radio wasn’t responsible, so a big THANKS goes out to Kim for being the courageous one and having a keen eye! I drew the portrait, and gave this litho (and the flowers) to him before the show.

Although the days of our radio meet-and-greets are gone, dreams still come true! We met up with Roger again in 2007 in Niagara Falls. What a generous, caring person he is. Thank you, Roger…we love ya!

We met Jeff Healey back in 1990. He just succumbed to cancer in March of ‘08 at the age of 41. He was ajeff-healey.jpgn amazing guitarist.

More to come…
