New York City has officially lifted all pandemic restrictions as coronavirus cases continue to decline in the state – and most importantly, it means the New York Botanical Garden will finally open Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Room August 3. The work is only visible from the outside from the successful exhibition Cosmic nature opened in the garden in April after a postponement of one year.

The new commissioner Infinity Mirrored Room – Illusion inside the heart (2020) features a cubic glass structure with a mirror-polished stainless steel reflective surface pierced with small holes. The artwork “reflected the seasonality of the garden landscape,” a spokesperson previously said of the incredibly inaccessible piece, but some have wondered what a Infinity Room was if you couldn’t get inside.

There are separate $ 10 timed tickets to enter the room, which go on sale this week, in addition to the $ 35 admission fee for the garden, which is regularly sold out, so start planning early. Do not want to brave a queue of several hours this summer? You might have better luck at the Rubell Museum in Miami, which has two Infinity rooms that each reopen this week after being closed since the end of March last year.

Correction: Tickets for Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room go on sale this week, but the facility won’t open until August
